We rolled into our motel to print postcards after a long day of driving — but saw that there might be a sunset and we both had the feeling that there was something nearby to explore. We looked at our topographical map and saw a mountain just around the bend from where we were so we dropped off most of the gear and got in the car, driving and navigating to the summit as quickly as we could to catch the light. After driving up a long gravel road we jumped out of the car and sprinted towards the communication towers in search of a view. It took a bit of looking around (and climbing) to find what we were after but it was worth the frantic effort. We were rewarded with great views and one very spectacular sunset.
And that picture of me sleeping was from another morning — I was in the driver’s seat in the car, where I spent the night after torrential rains completely soaked my non-waterproof tent.
